NOVEMBER UPDATE FOR GOTAMI HOUSE

As the snow continues to hold off in the mountains where the Abbey resides, the crew working on Gotami House tightens up the structure for winter. Temporary doors are being placed, the heating, electrical and plumbing are in, and the siding and roofing will soon start.

People who visit the site with the residents comment on its striking design as well as its practicality and the use of energy efficient materials.

A Blaze King wood burning stove brought out of storage will supply emergency backup heat in case of a power outage.

James and Parker give their strong backs a workout moving the 350 lb. stove into the Gotami House.

The Blaze King installed in the mechanical room.

Tim Wilson, the architect, pays the Abbey a visit, and Thomas goes over the construction high points. Tim had not been out to see the building since the original excavation. Click here for more about Gotami and this building project.

The circular opening above the library will hold a stained glass work of Mahaprajapati Gotami, the first bhikshuni.

Venerable Tarpa continues to be the Abbey liaison for the project and is doing an amazing job keeping an eye on all aspects of the construction.

The geo-thermal crew arrives and Venerable Tarpa goes over the location and plans for installation.

The tubing will carry the earth-warmed water into the house.

To garner the Earth’s heat, the coils are placed five feet under ground.

John’s crew sets pipes for the new septic drain field.

John stands on top of the 2500 gallon septic tank which will be more than sufficient to handle the needs of Gotami House.
