RESIDENTS ON RETREAT

Month two of our Manjushri Retreat has brought less snow, deeper practice, and a harmonious resident community.  The eleven of us have been enjoying the silence and the service that retreat provides.

The frozen fog crystallizes the Buddha Garden.

Many of us gathered round a computer screen to witness the inauguration of President Obama.

Venerable Jampel purifies negative karma with prostrations to the 35 Buddhas between sessions.

Venerable Semkye practices generosity by preparing bird feeders. She uses peanut butter and birdseed rather than the animal suet one buys in the store.

Our Venerable Abbess returns to the writing studio after participating in Sojong (the monastic confession ceremony).

Frederick offers additional water before the second meditation session.

The community has been taking turns offering service and meditating in the hall, allowing each other to take full advantage of this year’s retreat.

Long walks during breaks provide mental relaxation.

Cristina polishes our new prayer wheels.

The moon rises over the writing studio
where Venerable Chodron is on silent retreat.
