FIRE PUJA

Life here at the abbey is a constant reminder of impermanence with no inherent beginning or end.  As we slowly transition from one set of retreatants to another, we participate in an amazing purification practice, the Dorje Khadro Fire Puja.  The harmony is wonderful amidst the record levels of snow this year and snow shoveling.

Each week of the retreat, kind volunteers purchase and bring food offerings.  (Venerable Bhikshuni Tarpa and Venerable Semkye)

Tree and Jen make a few repairs to Haroldina, our faithful truck, after making a food offering

In preparation for the Dorje Khadro Fire Puja, Dianne and Pam set up the altar.

Meanwhile, Dallas and Cristina sculpt the scorpion offering out of sesame seeds and butter.

The scorpion absorbs all of our negativities and Dorje Khadro consumes and purifies them.

We review the practice before Venerable Abbess arrives.

While very cold outside, we all had a lot of happiness in our hearts.

The monastics begin dividing up the scorpion which participants will toss into the fire while saying mantra.

Kathleen and Kevin make sure every seed makes it into the fire.

Each of us holds onto the joyful feeling of the one month retreat.
