GOTAMI HOUSE TAKES SHAPE

Every day there’s something new to see as the monastic residence takes shape. The foundation and the columns that will hold up the deck and front entrance are done. Nick and Jason, the framers, have moved onto the site and are working steadily to get the structure up.

To conserve the resources offered our generous donors, the Abbey residents and supporters are doing many of the simple but labor intensive tasks around the site.

Meanwhile, in the upper meadow, John has excavated the site for the water system which will supply water to Gotami House, the existing main house, and future buildings.

Due to the kindness of our benefactors, Gotami House is coming to life. Stay tuned‑‑or even better, come and visit.

Venerable Tarpa stands in the center of Gotami House the day before the slab gets poured.

The pump truck delivers the concrete through a long hose that the concrete crew directs.

A large blade smoothes the concrete surface.

When the rains come, the guys build a tarp over the newly poured concrete to protect it.

Thousands of dollars are being saved by the community supplying labor for cleanup and other tasks. We are having a lot of fun!

The cleanup crew gets directions from Venerable Semkye.

It’s a beautiful site to work on with the deep blue skies and green forests.

The framing for the first floor is almost done.

Nick sets the top plates in preparation for the second floor.

Jason checks the nailing of the top plates in the first floor hallway.

John Perry excavates the site for the concrete storage tanks that will hold 15,000 gallons of fresh water for Gotami House, the main house, and future buildings.

Gravel is brought in to level the base.

Country Lane proved too sharp and steep for the concrete truck, so John pulls it up the road with his bulldozer.

The truck brings up two tanks at a time. The back trailer will be unhitched.

A crane, directed by the driver wearing a remote control device, lowers the first tank.

Two tanks are interlocked together.

The five tanks are lined up inside the large trench. Next to come are the pipes that will run the gravity-fed water down the hill.

Pat, the project manager and a good neighbor, checks the insulation foam between the two sections of tank.

Venerable Tarpa poses in one of John’s machines. She looks right at home.
