The Abbey welcomed a Christmas Day visitor into our backyard—a fawn we named Trinley. Trinley means enlightened activity in Tibetan.  In this brief video, our baby deer engages in the decidedly mundane activity of gnawing on a pear core. But Ven. Samten tells us if you listen carefully, you can hear him learning to whisper “Om mani padme hum.” We share this mantra with all Abbey creatures — animal, human, and other — with the wish that these imprints will someday ripen in each beings’ liberation from all suffering and in their full awakening.
