October 3 @ 7:00 pm - October 5 @ 8:30 pm BST
Venerable Thubten Chodron at Jamyang Buddhist Centre
Two Public talks
♦ Dharma for the Future
Thursday, 3 October, 19-20:30 pm
Something significant has been quietly happening in the background: for decades, Venerable Thubten Chodron has been compiling and coauthoring a multi-volume series, The Library of Wisdom and Compassion, presenting the Dalai Lama’s comprehensive explanation of the Buddhist path in English. Designed for a 21stcentury western audience, it brings in teachings from both the Sanskrit and Pali traditions.
In this talk, Venerable Chodron will take us through the genesis of this extraordinary series involving close collaboration with His Holiness; his vision for a presentation of the Buddha’s teachings that doesn’t presume faith in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, and what His Holiness means when he talks about being a “21st century Buddhist.”
♦ An Evening Chat with Venerable Thubten Chodron interviewed by Vicki MacKenzie
Saturday, 5 October, 19-20:30
Come and spend a Saturday evening with Venerable Thubten Chodron, a remarkable woman and role-model for many: one of the first-generation Western nuns ordained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition; founder of a thriving monastic community in Washington State, USA; best-selling author of many Buddhist books.
Interviewed by Vicki MacKenzie, journalist and best-selling author, this evening chat will be informal, incisive and fun. Find out about Ven. Chodron’s joys and struggles as a Western nun; her thoughts on the relevance of monastic life in the 21stcentury; how being an abbess of a growing monastic community has changed her and what she’s learned from it; what it’s like to have studied with the Dalai Lama for over forty years. And much more.
