Medicine Buddha retreat with Ven. Thubten Chodron
July 3, 2021 @ 5:30 am - July 9, 2021 @ 12:00 pm PDT

Medicine Buddha and Ven. Thubten Chodron
Ven. Thubten Chodron leads the Abbey’s annual one-week retreat online. Join us for meditation on Medicine Buddha. A maximum of 15 guests may attend this retreat in person. See details below.
Medicine Buddha practice is especially effective for developing compassion, love, and bodhicitta, and for physical healing. Through meditating on Medicine Buddha, we come to deeper understanding of healing as we purify the causes of suffering and enhance the causes for lasting happiness.
Ven. Chodron will guide us in the Medicine Buddha practice, explaining its background and how to do the meditation.
She will also resume her teaching on Master Nagarjuna’s classic text, “Letter to a Friend.” Written as advice to a king, this clear guidance by one of the most important teachers of the Sanskrit tradition explains many essential elements of Buddhist practice in 123 lovely verses. She will teach from the Padmakara Group’s translation, or you can access Alex Berzin’s translation.
Venerable Chodron began teaching “Letter to a Friend” during the Chenrezig one-week retreat in 2018 and continued in the Manjushri retreat in 2019. You can prepare for this year’s teachings by watching the playlist of previous teachings here.
