Seeing Our Sameness

with Ven. Thubten Ngwang & Ven. Thubten Gyatso

Wednesday, April 3

1 – 2:15 pm

Edminster Student Union, Driftwood Bay Room, Main Floor

In a world divided by our differences, recognizing our similarities is more important than ever. Join Buddhist monks Thubten Ngawang and Thubten Gyatso from Sravasti Abbey to explore reasons why empathy is needed now and how we can expand our care to include all living beings.

This is a follow-up to Ven. Sangye Khadro’s “Cardinal Reads” talk on A Fearless Heart.

All Abbey Dharma programs are offered freely, and your offering is welcomed. Make an offering here.

More about the teachers

Ven. Thubten Ngawang, a monk in the the Tibetan tradition, has trained at Sravasti Abbey since his first visit in 2014, and ordained as novice monk in 2022. He has facilitated meditations and discussions for the long-running Buddhist class at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, and has volunteered at the Airway Heights Correctional Center. He now visits the prison twice a month on behalf of the Abbey. See more.

Ven. Thubten Gyatso, a monk in the Tibetan tradition, served three years as an English teacher at the Sarnath International Nyingma Institute in India, where he lived and meditated with monks of that tradition. This inspired his interest in ordaining as a monastic. He joined Sravasti Abbey’s Exploring Monastic Life program online in 2021, promptly moved to the Abbey, and received novice ordination in 2023. See more.
