Sharing the Dharma Day & Kathina Ceremony

April 12 @ 8:45 am - 3:00 pm PDT

Sharing the Dharma Day & Kathina Ceremony

9:45 am – 3:30 pm

Join us for an especially festive sharing of the Dharma, as we interweave our Sharing the Dharma Day program with our seventh annual kathina ceremony.

The kathina (pronounced ka-tee-na) is widely celebrated in the Buddhist countries of Southeast Asia. Dating to the Buddha’s time, it’s traditionally an occasion for making offerings to replenish sangha supplies after the long retreat. The Abbey’s American version includes a procession, gift exchange, Dharma talk, and a vegetarian potluck.

Sharing the Dharma Day is the Abbey’s monthly open house when we welcome newcomers and old friends to explore Buddhism. The day includes meditation, a talk, vegetarian potluck, discussion, and fellowship.

All are welcome; openness and friendly curiosity are the only prerequisites.

If you’d like to make a kathina offering, we’ll post a wish list as the date nears. Thanks for your generosity!
