Buddhist scholar, teacher, and long-time practitioner, Jan Willis will teach on Lama Tsongkhapa’s concise text, The Three Principal Aspects of the Path. Her talks include the three main topics of renunciation, compassion, and wisdom.
Jan is a Professor Emerita of Religion at Wesleyan University as well as a long-time Buddhist practitioner. While traveling through Asia during the early 1970s, she became the student of Lama Yeshe (who is also one of Ven. Chodron’s root teachers). Renowned as a story-teller as well as a scholar, Jan is the author of several books on Buddhism. Perhaps her best known work is a personal memoir, Dreaming Me: Black, Baptist, and Buddhist—One Woman’s Spiritual Journey. She has admired and studied Lama Tsongkhapa’s work for decades and comes to the Abbey to share her insights and experiences.
