Eminent scholar Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe continues teaching from his commentary, The Rice Seedling SutraBuddha’s Teachings on Dependent Arising. The Buddha explains in many sutras that to understand his Dharma is to understand dependent arising. The Rice Seedling Sutra is one of the best known. Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe’s commentary explores dependent arising, and the corollary teaching of emptiness, through this sutra and others, as well as Indian commentaries. In Tibetan, with consecutive English interpretation by Katrina Brooks.

About the Teachers

Venerable Thubten Chodron is the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey. She received novice ordination from Kyabje Ling Rinpoche in 1977 and full ordination in Taiwan in 1986. Her teachers include His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tsenzhab Serkong Rinpoche, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and Lama Thubten Yeshe and many others.

In addition to founding Sravasti Abbey, Ven. Chodron teaches worldwide and is known for her warm, practical, and humorous explanations of how to apply Buddhist teachings in daily life. She has also published many books on Buddhist philosophy and meditation, and is currently co-authoring with His Holiness the Dalai Lama a multi-volume series of teachings on the Buddhist path, The Library of Wisdom and Compassion.

California-born, Ven. Sangye Khadro ordained as a Buddhist nun at Kopan Monastery in Nepal  in 1974, and took the full (bhikshuni) ordination in 1988. She has studied Buddhism with many great masters including  Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Lama Yeshe, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey, and Khensur Jampa Tegchok. She  began teaching in 1979 and was a resident teacher at Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Singapore for 11 years. In addition to Awakening the Kind Heart, she is the author several books, including How to Meditate, now in its 17th printing.
Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe is a celebrated scholar and teacher. Born in 1930, he became a monk at 13, trained at Drepung Loseling Monastery in Tibet, and completed his Geshe Lharampa degree in India after escaping the Communist occupation. Geshela is an emeritus professor at the Central University of Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, India. 

His works include translation of The Essence of Good Explanation of Definitive and Interpretable Meanings (Tib. Lek-Shey Nying-Po) by Tsongkhapa into Hindi, and A Commentary on the Rice Seedlings Sutra (Skt. Salistamba Sutra) by Vasubandhu. His own commentary, The Rice Seedling Sutra: Buddha’s Teachings on Dependent Arising, was translated into English by Joshua and Diana Cutler and published by Wisdom Publications. He has facilitated many research works such as a complete translation of Lama Tsongkhapa’s The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Tib. Lam Rim Chen Mo) a major project undertaken by The Tibetan Buddhist Learning Center in New Jersey.
