Invite Your Support for The New Year
In October of 2003, one nun and two cats moved into the newly established Sravasti Abbey just outside Newport, Washington. In that moment, founder Venerable Thubten Chodron sparked a new movement in an ancient tradition.
Sravast Abbey was, and remains, one of the few English-speaking monastic communities in the world, where lay practitioners sit side by side with monks and nuns to learn and practice Buddha’s teachings on ethics, non-violence, compassion, and wisdom.
Through an impressive online presence, these teachings are freely and widely available, cultivating peace in the hearts of individuals, and in the world.
Just as it was in the Buddha’s time, Sravasti Abbey exists solely by the kindness of volunteers and the spirit of generosity of so many people, just like you.
The Abbey returns that generosity a thousand fold with the wealth of in-person and online teachings, books, and outreach programs that are offered freely.
In this time of conflict in so many places, it is precious to know there’s a place where love and compassion are practiced and promoted.
We hope you’ll join us in spreading the word, and acting today, with your gift to support the aims of Sravasti Abbey.
This webpage outlines multiple ways to give.
Today, with a resident community of 22 monastics and the Buddha Hall construction almost completed, Sravasti Abbey continues to fulfill its mission in countless ways to create peace in a chaotic world.
May your holidays be peaceful and the New Year see all your spiritual aspirations fulfilled.
